Real Madrid: another name enters the scene for the succession of Carlo Ancelotti

Real Madrid Ancelotti refuse de parler d’une seconde humiliation face à Xavi C'est un manque de respect de dire ça

Carlo Ancelotti who is the current coach of Real Madrid is not sitting comfortably on his seat. Since the performances of the white house this season leave the door open to a probable departure of the Italian at the end of the season. And already the list of his likely replacements is growing.

Real Madrid is currently second in LaLiga with 12 points behind the eternal rival Barcelona, to whom the title of the season is already promised. A situation that Carlo Ancelotti could have avoided by winning at Camp Nou to reduce the gap to 6 points and revive the championship in the last confrontation between the two clubs. But the 24th day has finally sealed the fate of the championship and its coach, unless the latter in the clasico of April 5, manages to reach the final of the King’s Cup, which will make the suspense last a little.

And while everyone is thinking about the fate of the Italian, in Germany, everything is already decided for Julian Nagelsmann. The departure of the German technician in the middle of the decisive phase of the season (Bayern is second in the Bundesliga, one point behind Dortmund, and in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, where he will face City) could have a domino effect on continental soccer. Tuchel, who was sacked in September at Chelsea, was tipped as a candidate for several top jobs for next season, including at Real Madrid.

Tuchel’s name was on the list of candidates for the coaching position (Raúl, Pochettino, Alonso and Zidane are also in the running) and it was even rumored that the coach was studying the Spaniard because he was enamored with the idea of leading the Madrid club. But Bayern’s snap decision closes the door on the possibility of seeing Tuchel at the Bernabeu in the short term (he has signed until 2025). However, it opens up an unexpected opportunity: the possible landing at Chamartín of Julian Nagelsmann. The 35-year-old coach had already been spotted by Madrid in 2018 while at Hoffenheim, when Zidane first left the Real Madrid bench.

Nagelsmann himself admitted that there had been contacts, but he had not dared to take the step. “It is normal that when Real Madrid calls you, you think about it. At first I was surprised, I weighed the pros and cons, but I didn’t feel comfortable going. I wanted to improve as a coach and at Real Madrid there is no time for that. You don’t have the opportunity to become a better coach, because you have to be the best. I am not, although I can admit that I want to be one of the best in the future.

If you go to Madrid or Barcelona, they don’t give you the time to become one. They only want victories in every game, titles, the Champions League…. If you don’t win, you can’t say you’re still young, that you’re growing,” Nagelsmann told the British newspaper The Independent in 2020. Now he has more experience, he has coached a big club like Bayern Munich and Real Madrid could think about him to replace Ancelotti in case the Italian leaves the bench.
