Premier League: Declan Rice, Guardiola’s most expensive setback
Barcelona beat Real Madrid last Sunday in the final of the Spanish Supercup. A well-deserved victory for the men of Xavi Hernandez that bears the imprint of Gavi, the 18-year-old who made two assists and scored a goal. But long before that performance, the Spaniard was boosted by his teammate Robert Lewandowski.
Xavi Hernandez’s Barcelona won their first title and everyone including Robert Lewandowski was euphoric. Since for the latter, the victory in the Spanish Supercup final would not have tasted better if it was not against Real Madrid. The Pole gave his best performance, with an assist and a goal, completing an extraordinary game. It is therefore logical that he exploded with joy at the end of the game.
However, one of the keys to the game was his connection with Gavi. Between them, they scored the first two goals. And it was not a coincidence. It was the consequence of a well thought out plan that the players had been mentally prepared for.
This was revealed by Robert himself in his statements after the game, “I told him that if we are close, we can do dangerous things, we can do damage in the penalty area.” Gavi therefore listened to the expert striker and the result was excellent.
That’s why Lewandowski praised him after the game while stressing that: “winning a title is always incredible.” But he did not finish without thinking about the next challenge of the Catalan club: “The next big challenge is the championship, where “the hardest is yet to come and we want to stay on top. We have to keep pushing.”
